Caravan mirror holder
The present invention relates to a caravan mirror holder for mounting on an exterior mirror of a car.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The usual way to attach a caravan mirror holder to the exterior mirror of a car is to mount a holder, as described, for example, in German Gebrauchs musterschrift DE 90 14 343 U, which comprises a main arm for supporting the caravan mirror, with the main arm is provided with a first bend for engaging a proximal portion of the door mirror, that is, the part closest to the car, and another bend provided for engaging a distal end of the door mirror , that is, the part that is furthest from the car.
A retaining screw is placed between the deflections with a pressure part for adjacent positioning against the rear of the exterior mirror. The problem here is that different exterior mirrors have different dimensions, and for that reason a caravan mirror holder with different dimensions must be designed for each different car model and the associated exterior mirror. For the camper this means, for example, that if he purchases another car, he is forced to replace the caravan mirror holder.
A solution to this problem is described in European patent application EP 1 935 718, where two clamps are provided which are suitable for clamping one side of the outer housing of the car mirror, the mirror being attached to the main arm of the caravan mirror holder so that it can rotate about axes which are situated substantially at a right angle with respect to the longitudinal direction of the main arm. As a result, the clamps can be adapted to different shapes of the outer housings of car mirror holders.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a caravan mirror holder with improved flexibility, which can be easily manufactured simultaneously and which offers the possibility of adopting various embodiments.
Brief description of the invention
The invention relates to a caravan mirror holder which is suitable for mounting on an exterior mirror of a car, wherein the caravan mirror holder comprises a main arm, which are provided with: a first clamping part and a second clamping part, each of these clamping parts comprising a pressure part for fitting with a apply adjustable pressure against an outside of an outer housing of an exterior mirror, a first abutment part and another abutment part, wherein each part has an abutment surface adapted to abut against an inner surface of the outer housing of the outside mirror, the first clamping part and the first abutment part are adapted to clamp together over a part of the outer housing of the outside mirror, while the other clamping part and the other abutment part are arranged to clamp together over another part of the outer housing of the outside mirror, characterized in , that the first abutment part and the other abutment part each relative to are rotatably positioned with respect to the main arm, wherein the angle between the longitudinal direction of the main arm and the respective abutment surfaces of the abutment parts can be changed, while the first clamping part and the other clamping part have a fixed angle with respect to the main arm.
A very simple construction is used to position the clamping parts stationary relative to the main arm, because it concerns only contact parts which are positioned such that they can be rotated relative to the main arm. The same effect is generally obtained when the angle which the outer housing of the mirror holder takes with respect to the longitudinal direction of the main arm can be varied in its size, i.e. usually between 0 ° and 30 °.
It is preferred that the abutment members are rotatably positioned about respective axes, which run substantially at a right angle to the longitudinal direction of the main arm.
The abutment members can be positioned such that they are rotatable at all times. However, it is preferable because of the stability of the mounting that the abutment members each comprise a securing element which is adapted to be operated to prevent rotation of the abutment member in question so that the angle of the abutment surfaces cannot be changed.
The first clamping part and the second clamping part preferably have a manually operable wheel for manually adjusting the pressure, whereby adjustment of the pressure of the pressure part against the outer housing of the exterior mirror can take place manually and without the use of tools.
The clamping parts can be designed, for example, as a snap connection or as a guiding device with a brake, as is also used, for example, with a cement gun. This has the advantage that the clamping parts are formed by clamping screws and in particular that the pressure parts that are positioned on the screw part are rotatable with external screw thread, so that when screwing the screw parts the pressure parts are rotated relative to the part of the outer housing against which the pressure part be able to remain positioned in place.
The pressure parts of the tensioning screws can furthermore each be movably mounted on the screw part, so that the angle of the pressure parts adjusts to the angle of the outer housing of the outside mirror when the tensioning screws are tightened.
It is preferred that the main arm is provided with at least two holes for mounting the clamping parts and / or the contact parts. This allows for a simpler and more elegant assembly than when using sleeves for tensioning the main arm. It is particularly preferred that the main arm is solid, so that the holes can be provided with internal screw thread, for retaining screws provided with external screw thread cooperating with it. The holes may be in the form of blind holes.
In a preferred embodiment, the first tensioning screws and the other tensioning screws are received in two through holes with internal thread.
The caravan mirror holder can further accommodate a mounting part which is provided on the main arm, wherein the clamping parts and / or the supporting parts are mounted in mounting parts.
The mounting parts are a variation of the invention, wherein the number of holes in the main arm can be minimized, thereby minimizing its weakening. The mounting parts are attached to the main arm in such a way that they are released therefrom, for example the mounting parts are clampingly connected to the main arm, as is the case with the use of clamping sleeves or they are attached by the use of one or more screws which clamp onto the main arm, wherein these are fed into a hole in the mounting part. However, it is preferable that the mounting part is secured to the main arm by means of a screw in said hole.
Alternatively, the caravan mirror holder may have a main arm which comprises a mounting bead which is formed on a longitudinal part of a strip-shaped material by means of a non-releasable fixing means, such as a welding operation, an extension or the like. As a result, any weakening of the strip-shaped material is prevented, which could occur during the manufacture of the main arm, and it permits mounting that is less susceptible to wear and the like.
It is further preferred that the abutment members have a non-slip coating on at least a portion of the abutment surfaces, for improving contact with the inner surface of the outer casing of the outer mirror, as well as for preventing possible damage or markings on the outer surface. housing.

Detailed description
A first preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown in FIG. 1 -3.
A caravan mirror holder 1, which carries a caravan mirror 2, is shown in a condition mounted on the exterior mirror 3 of a car. The exterior mirror 3 comprises an outer housing 4, which is fixedly positioned with respect to the body of the car, together with a mirror insert 5, the position of which can be adjusted relative to the driver. The caravan mirror holder 1 further comprises a main arm 6 in the form of a machined round rod of aluminum, wherein a first and a second tensioning screw 7, 8, each of which comprises a screw part 9, 10 and a pressure part 11, 12 as well as a hand-operated handle 13, 14 for firmly pressing the pressure parts 11, 12 against the outer housing 4 of the exterior mirror 3 and releasing them again. The pressure parts 11, 12 are connected to the screw parts 9, 10 via a ball, so that the pressure part does not turn when it rests against the outside of the outer housing 4 and the screw parts 9. 10 for tightening or releasing the pressure parts 11, 12 are rotated, partly to adjust an angle to the outer housing, where the pressure parts 11, 12 come into engagement therewith. The screw parts 9, 10 are provided with an external screw thread and are fed through through holes 15, 16 in the main arm 6, the holes 15, 16 being provided with a corresponding internal screw thread.
In accordance with the first embodiment, contact parts 17, 18 are mounted in the main arm 6 by means of manually operated screws 19, 20 in through holes 21, 22. The screws 19, 20 are provided with an external thread corresponding to internal thread in the through holes 21, 22 for mounting the abutment parts 17, 18. The abutment parts 17, 18 have abutment surfaces 23, 24 which are arranged to abut against an inner surface of the outer casing 4 of the exterior mirror and comprise a rubber coating to provide the abutment surfaces 23, 24 with a non-slip coating, a so-called "no-slip". Other suitable materials can be used which in part have the same properties and which moreover prevent the contact between the abutment surfaces 23, 24 and the outer housing 4 leaving no marks on it. Between the abutment parts 17, 18 and the main arm, bushes 25 are provided which fit onto the main arm 6 and the abutment parts 17, 18 provide a suitable distance from the main arm. From the point of view of manufacture, it is preferable to design these as separate, loose cans. Alternatively, however, they may also be integral with the abutment members 17, 18 or fixedly attached thereto, for example with an adhesive.
When the screws 19, 20 are loosened, the Supporting parts 17, 18 can pivot about their respective axes which pass through the through holes 21, 22 when the screws are inserted therein. The through holes 21, 22 are drilled such that they are at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the main arm 6 and the abutment members 17, 18 remain rotatable about their axes in this way, which are substantially at right angles to of the main arm 6. Alternatively, instead of the hand-operated screws 19, 20, other types of screws, for example those with a hex head, may be used, in which case a tool must be used to tighten or loosen the screws. Alternatively, instead of the through holes 21, 22, blind holes with internal thread can be used.
When the caravan mirror holder 1 is to be mounted, the screws 19, 20 are released, so that the abutment parts 17, 18 can rotate about their respective axes and the clamping screws 7, 8 are released when the hand wheels 13, 14 are turned, so that the abutment parts 17 18 can easily be fed between the outer housing 4 of the exterior mirror 3 and the mirror inserts 5. The main arm 6 holds the caravan mirror 2 in its correct position, whereafter the tensioning screws 7, 8 are tightened by turning the hand wheels 13, 14. This brings the first pressure part 11 and the other pressure part 12 into abutting position relative to the outside of the outer housing 4. When the tensioning screws 7, 8 are further tightened, the wall of the outer housing 4 becomes between the opposite pressure parts 11, 12 and the abutment surfaces 23, 24 of the abutment parts 17, 18. In this course of action, the abutment parts 17, 18 rotate about themselves, so that the abutment surfaces 23, 24 assume the same angle as the part on the inner surfaces of the abutment parts. outer housing 4, against which the abutment surfaces 23, 24 abut. When the tensioning screws 7, 8 are sufficiently tightened to hold the main arm 7 in the correct position, the fingers 19, 20 to be operated with fingers are prevented from turning the contact parts 17, 18 so that the angle of the respective abutment surfaces 23, 24 relative to the longitudinal direction of the main arm 6 cannot be changed. The mounting of the caravan mirror holder 1 on the exterior mirror 3 is thus obtained. When dismantling, it is sufficient to loosen the tensioning screws 7, 8. If the caravan mirror holder 1 is later to be mounted on the same exterior mirror again, the contact parts 17, 18 can be held at the angle to be used for the new assembly.
The through holes 15, 16 in the main arm 6 for receiving the screw parts 9, 10 of the tensioning screws 7, 8 are, as can be seen in FIG. 2, positioned between the through holes 21, 22 in the main arm 6 for mounting the abutment members 17, 18. This results in a mutual shift of the cooperating parts of clamping screws 7, 8 and the abutment members 17, 18, which have a characteristic protrusion of the outer casing 4 of the exterior mirror, so that the abutment surfaces 23, 24 as well as the abutment part 17, 18 are rotated, are placed substantially straight above the pressure parts 11, 12 of the clamping screws 7, 8.
The main arm 6 could, as an alternative to the round rod of aluminum, be made from a hollow steel rod or from a plastic material, in particular a fiber-reinforced plastic material.
Another second embodiment is shown in FIG. 4, where the main arms 6 in the area to which the clamping screws 7, 8 and the abutment members 17, 18 are mounted, are provided with a mounting thickening 26 in the form of an aluminum block, which is provided on its upper side with a milled groove which is cylindrical in cross-section, wherein the part of the main arm 6, which is made of a round aluminum rod 27, fits in here and wherein the round rod 27 and the mounting thickening 26 are connected to each other by means of a weld seam. In this embodiment, the holes 21, 22 for mounting the abutment parts 17, 18 in the mounting thickening 26 are designed as blind holes with an internal thread, while the holes 15, 18 for receiving the screw parts 9, 10 through the round rods 27 are fitted as mounting thickenings 26.
Said mounting thickenings 26 can alternatively be made of an aluminum block from a plastic material, such as, for example, POM (polyoxymethylene), the weld seam 28 being replaced by an adhesive.
An alternative to the second embodiment according to FIG. 4 is shown in FIG. 5, where a third embodiment with a mounting bead 26 is shown, which is attached to a round rod 27 with a weld seam 28, without providing a complaint in the mounting bead 26. In the third embodiment, the through holes 15, 16 for receiving the screw parts 5, 10 are not formed by the round rods 27, but only by the mounting thickenings 26. A further alternative to the embodiments of FIG. 4 and 5 are shown in FIG. 6, in which a fourth embodiment is shown, in which a small side of the mounting bead 26 is attached to the round rod by means of a weld seam 28, such that the clamping screws 7, 8 and the abutment members 17. 18 on the same side of the round rod 27 are mounted, in contrast to the embodiment in which they are mounted on an opposite side of the round position 27. A further alternative in the form of a fifth embodiment shown in FIG.
7, where the mounting bead 26 is attached to the round rod 27 with a single weld point, so that the abutment members 17, 18 are directly in contact with the mounting bead 26 below the round rod 26, which from an aesthetic point of view provides an advantageous appearance.
The embodiments shown in FIG. 4 to 7, all have in common that the mounting thickening 26 of the main arm 6 makes a more robust mounting of the tensioning screws 7, 8 and the abutment parts 17, 18 possible as opposed to a shift and a load with the bush 25, as is the case with the bushing. first embodiment takes place unnecessarily.
An alternative to the use of mounting thickenings 26 as in the sixth and seventh exemplary embodiments is shown in FIG. 8 and 9 and 10 and 11, where a mounting part 29 is placed on the main arm 6 by means of mounting screws 30, 31 in two mounting holes 32, 33 in the main arm 6, where the two tensioning screws 7, 8 and abutment parts 17, 18 in the mounting part 29 are mounted.
The mounting part 29 can be manufactured as an aluminum block or alternatively from a plastic material such as, for example, POM (polyoxy-methylene).
